There are many misconceptions to owning a Rottweiler. You may truly love the look and temperament of the Rottweiler breed, but that does not mean that a Rottweiler is the right breed for your family. Asking questions is key to understanding if a Rottweiler is the right addition to your family. This page makes that process easy and has many frequently asked questions about Rottweilers in general and SunRidge Run's Rottweilers in particular. If you have any unanswered questions feel free to reach out!
When you pick your pup up at 8-9 weeks of age, you can see them in person. Until then, photos and videos will give you all the viewing you will need to pick your puppy. It is done this way for the safety and health of the puppies. Only homes with a reserved puppy are able to come and interact with the pups when it's time for them to leave. We keep disease exposure very limited. We also have photos of most of our dams and sires on our lineage page.
Along with each sire/dam on the website there is a description including weight along with their individual health clearances.
Black and Tan breeds are at a higher risk for several health problems including cancer. I personally have only had one Rottweiler (over 25 years of breeding and showing) develop cancer. While helping manage and control his cancer growth, I learned a lot about a cancer starving diet. This includes but is not limited to: limiting *carbohydrates to slow the progression down. Adding kale, spinach, blueberries and cold pressed salmon oil to their diets can help protect them. Adding Vitamin C and Vitamin E.
(*carbohydrates outside of what is naturally found in vegetables and fruits, are just fillers in a dogs diet and should be avoided for optimal health.)
Over vaccination and excessive vet trips increase the risks as well. I'm not sure the connection but I definitely have noticed one over the years.
Well, I feed Earthborn holistic puppy to all Rottweilers I raise and have done so for the past 15+ years. I recommend nothing less than a kibble containing 30% protein, 20% fat, for your Rottweiler. What brand you feed needs to be determind by you. I'm not a kibble dealer. However, I do like Purina Pro Plan Performance 30/20. As stated in other answers on this FAQ section, I recommend supplementing with kale, blueberries, spinach, Vitamin E and Vitamin C. I also recommend a soft scrambled egg added to their kibble. Protein power!!
If you have to ask, can you truly afford one? Taking a Rottweiler puppy home is a lot of work physically and financially. Typically, our Rottweiler puppies range from $1500-$2800 depending on the dam and sire. If you want to verify this pricing, please check out google searches for Rottweiler pricing in the Midwest. This price does include needed puppy vaccinations, Pet AKC and microchip.
Crate training your pup to not only help with housetraining but also to teach them to enjoy their crate. Give them crate time daily, just do not abuse it. For their first two years of life, those hips are easily worn and need to be babied a bit. The more active you allow your Rottweiler puppy to be on hard floors, the more wear those hips are getting. Stairs are another common culprit, along with jumping on couches, beds, and in and out of taller vehicles. Learn how to assist your pup in and out of the vehicles so not all of the weight in on the elbows and hips. Genetics can only go so far. Hip dysplasia caused by environmental wear is just as big of an issue as genetic.
